Are you listening to Satan’s lies or God’s Word?

Why is it so easy to listen to Satan’s lies and so hard to hear God’s words?! Satan has always tried to deceive people from trusting God’s promises—from Adam and Eve in the garden to Jesus himself in the desert. Why would we think he wouldn’t attack our confidence in God’s Word, His goodness, His authority and His plan? God wants to work through us to stop the lies from spreading in this world!! “Are you listening to Satan’s lies or God’s Word?”

John 8:43-45
• We choose to listen either to God’s Word or Satan’s lies.
• Jesus was tempted in the same way immediately after He was baptized. (Matt. 4)
• In Jesus we see the victory possible over Satan’s temptations
Question: Do you really believe you could defeat Satan?

1 John 2:16
i. Satan can tempt us through our cravings for sin (sensual temptation).
ii. Satan can tempt us through our lust for our eyes (material temptation).
iii. Satan can tempt us through our ambition for God (personal temptation).
• Satan can even use your boasting about how you are a Christian (self-righteousness).
Question: What was the only resource that Jesus had in the desert?
• God’s Word is the only thing that Satan fears.
• Satan fears our obedience to the Word of God.
• Satan might say, “If I could make them doubt or distort God’s Word, then I got them.”
Question: Why is it so hard for us to obey God’s Word? (And so easy to obey Satan’s?)
• It is because of our sinful nature within us that desires sin.

• It is so easy to believe Satan’s lies but it is hard to believe God’s promises.
• Satan does not want you to listen to God’s Word.

Genesis 3:1-9
• Each of us gets to decide whether to listen to God’s Word or Satan’s lies.
• Satan is trying to make you reject God’s Word so that you will listen to him.

Question: Do you see how Satan distorts and tries to make her doubt God’s Word?

1. Satan wants you to doubt the validity of God’s Word.
Question: Did God really say that I have to be humble even when someone hurts me?
Question: Did God really say not even a hint of impurity?
• Doubting God is the plan of the devil.
• Without the foundation of God’s Word, we will be blown and tossed around by the winds of false teaching.
• Satan wants us to believe that God’s Word is just like any other book.
• Satan wants us to think that this is just some cool book that some wise guys came up with.
• The Bible was written by over 40 authors of 66 different books within the Bible.
• The Bible was written in 3 languages – Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
• There are approximately 400 prophecies regarding Jesus in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in New Testament covering a time period of over 1500 years
• Not one archaeological find has ever contradicted the Word. Many have supported it.
• There are more ancient copies of the Bible than any other ancient manuscript – over 40,000!
• Satan’s plan is to keep us from having regular contact with God.
i. We can question the authority of God’s Word.
ii. We can avoid the teaching of God’s Word.

• You doubt God when you doubt God’s Word.
Question: How did Satan make you question the validity of God’s Word this week?

• Some of us are saying to God, “I want it now! Give it to me now!”
• God says that you have to work.
• The things of the world are desirable.
• Our desires can go from food to family.
