Thinking about God’s gift of grace makes you appreciate even the number of days he’s given us here on this earth. Are we living our lives to make the most of every opportunity?

“The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.” – Elie Wiesel

It’s time to make a difference and not allow ourselves to slip into indifference!

“Time: God’s Gift of Grace” preached by Andrew Smellie
Sunday, April 27, 2008
Psalm 90:1-17
• Time is really short.
• Time is a gift of God’s grace.
Question: How different would you be if you knew that you would die tomorrow?
Question: How grateful should you be that you are alive today?
• It reminds you that God is God and you are not.
• It reminds you that from dust you came and to dust you will return.
• If you were to treat people the way that God treated you, then the world would be different.
• If you are living with gratitude and wisdom, then you would praise God.
Question: What is going to last for an eternity?
Question: What is going to last forever?

James 4:13-17
Question: How are you living your life?
Question: How urgent are you?
Question: What is your life?
• Life is a vapor.
• No one can confidently say: “I’m living tomorrow.”
Question: What if God came to you and told you exactly when you are going to die?
Question: Do you realize that you are actually boasting when you do not rely on Him?
• God does not tell you when you will die so that you rely on Him.
• Live a life of no regrets.

1. Because time is short, I will speak out and not keep silent.
• You have to be like that with other disciples of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 22:37-39
Question: Are you obeying the Great Commission?

Matthew 28:18-20
Question: Are you seeking the lost for Jesus?

Luke 19:17
• Everything you are doing is for Jesus.
• You have time.
• You have to be creative.
• Satan wants to make your life so convoluted that you lose your focus.
Question: How did the early church grow so rapidly?

Acts 8:4
• Speak the Word of God boldly.
• Challenge: Pray that you trust God and that He gives you great boldness.
• Your demeanor says something to the person about what you mean to say to him or her.
• Because time is short, you have to speak up and not be silent.
Question: How do you teach?

Deuteronomy 6:6-7
• The early church grew because the members of that church taught their families.

John 1:41

Acts 10:24

Acts 16:15

Acts 16:33
• You have to have the same zeal and urgency toward the lost as you do with your family.
Question: Are you teaching others?

2 Timothy 2:2
Question: Are you looking for opportunities to teach?
Question: Are you using the Bible with other disciples of Jesus Christ?
• You got to look for the opportunities to teach.
• If you don’t teach, then you die.
Question: How could you get something you really know if you do not share it with other people?
• You teach people for your heart to stay soft.
• Either you speak out or you keep silent.
• God is going to do even greater things.
• Challenge: Get inspired to do great things for God.
Question: Are you making the most of the time that you spend with people?

2. Because time is short, you need to be filled with zeal and not indifference.
“The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.” – Elie Wiesel
• People who are indifferent simply stop caring.
• Jesus died for you.
• When you stop being grateful, you forget.
• If you are not passionate about something, then you get indifferent.
• The world can fire you up about all of these things that do not last.
• The world will use you.
• You get indifferent about spiritual things.
• When you stop caring about what God wants you to do that is lukewarmness.
(Revelation 3:16)
• You cannot be indifferent about the world.
• You cannot be calloused about the fact that the world is going to hell.
• You cannot be indifferent about sin – you have to be repulsed by it.
• You get indifferent about sin.
• You got to help the world to be ashamed.

Jeremiah 8:10-12
• You got to call to repent.
• Sin hurts God.
• Be zealous for the Lord.

Revelation 3:19

3. Because time is short, I will live by faith and not with doubt.
• If you think negative, then you are killing yourself spiritually.
• If you talk like this, then you will die.
• Be earnest and repent.

Numbers 13:31
• People thought negatively.

Matthew 14:30
Question: Are you filled with faith or are you filled with doubt?
• You got to be filled with a lot of faith.

Philippians 4:13
• The early church grew rapidly because it was filled with faith.
• If you are filled with doubt, then you are hurting this church.

4. Because time is short, I will contribute peace and not strife.
Question: Do you gossip about other people?
• A tongue can destroy a congregation.
Question: Are you bringing peace instead of strife?
• When you criticize and say negative things about other people, it will happen to you.

James 3:13-18
Question: Are you as merciful as much as you want God to be toward you?
• Either you are sentimental or you are sincere.
• Love each other as if there is no issue, but deal with the issue.
• You got to deal with the issues.

1 Corinthians 3:3
• You got to love each other and deal with the issue(s).
• Strengthen each other and show hospitality.

5. Because time is short, I will be active instead of inactive in this congregation.
Question: Are you giving everything in God’s Kingdom?
James 4:16
Question: Are you really shirking responsibility?
• You got to call each other higher because time is short.
• Challenge: You need to give your all for the sake of God’s Kingdom.
• Time is a common denominator.
• How you live life makes all the difference.

Ephesians 5:8-17
“One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it’s worth watching.” – Unknown
