Shaking it Up

Baptisms of Disciples

Three additions to our number since the beginning of the year!

Isaiah 43:16-19

This is what the LORD says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

The Lord has always been the God who changes things, especially when things get a little stagnant. Whenever things become set in a motion, the Lord intervenes to shake up things “so that what cannot be shaken may remain.”(Hebrews 12:27) Indeed, when the disciples of the first century church gathered together in a house for prayer, during the times of great persecutions, they prayed together for boldness and the place where they were praying was shaken (Acts 4:31).

Recent events in the world today, especially in some third world countries, where earthquakes have shaken the very foundation of people’s lives to near nothing, have given us some idea of what it means to shake something up. With the earthquakes in Chile and volcanoes in Iceland, the world is truly groaning for Christ to return. We can look at that, and we can send monetary support, or even little ‘missionary excursions’, and those are good to be sure. However, the Lord has decided to do “a new thing” here in Syracuse.

Steve and Kithy Ranga are disciples from the Empire City International Christian Church, who lead a church in Seranom, South America. At the time, Steve and Kithy were sent there AS the mission team, with the exception of a brother who was already there! It was a team of three. By faith, at one Women’s Day, the church in South America had an attendance of over 230, to God be the Glory. Steve Ranga is from the Trinidad in the Caribbean, and his wife, Kithy, is from Seranom, the Lord moved them all the way from the States, to South America, to Long Island, and finally they settle with their three children in the Syracuse International Christian Church. With Chris and Kerri-sue Adams moving to New York City, God has put on the Rangas a new task, as He has sent them on their next mission… To Lead.

By planting this couple into Syracuse, the Lord has already increased the faith of the disciples and will continue to build their faith into a fruitful procession. Steve has already preached two very powerful sermons (which can be found in the ‘Sermons’ link at the top of the page), and wasting no time has been in several bible studies, preaching the heart and soul of the very words of God.

As the Rangas adjust to their new territory, and the disciples here continue to fearlessly proclaim the word, God’s hand is moving. Already he has added to our number the lives of several disciples, restored the hearts of others, and brought to our number many lost souls who are now finding solace in the arms of the disciples. Michquan Stallings was added to our number March 14th, 2010 from OCC Campus, which encouraged, and continues to encourage, the hearts of all the brothers. Edward Kent, after more than ten years of wandering through, and wading the world, has turned finally to God and was baptized truly into Christ April 4th, 2010. Many others have come into our number, and our prayers are with them.

The Lord is moving powerfully in Syracuse, shaking our foundations, and leaving what is unshaken to stand firm til the end. We hope these words encourage you, as you read them, and give you inspiration as you continue with your walk with God.

To God be the Glory.
